Staying Healthy in the Winter

Winter comes around and everything changes. You become more dehydrated; your hair becomes brittle, your skin is dry and your lips are unbearable! You soon realize that your summer regiment is not cutting it anymore. CHANGES need to be made and NOW.

The cold weather, windy weather, low humidity and extreme temperature changes are the main causes.

Haircare is very important. Ditch the over the counter products and invest in good quality moisturizing shampoo and conditioner!!! Even if you have fine hair, there is a product line that will give you the moisture with leaving you greasy or weighed down. Along with a good shampoo and conditioner, use a Leave In conditioner. Leave In conditioners are often missed in everyones routine, but very important as it will add extra protection from heat before styling. When using styling products, pay attention to the ingredients! One of the biggest drying ingredient is Alcohol. During and after styling to add more moisture use an oil. There are many to choice from depending on your hair type.

SKIN! When the winter hits… my skin aways gets dull and lifeless. What the heck, JackFrost?! Your not being kind. To bring this lifeless skin back, you have to do a few extra things. Hydrate!!!! Drink double your water and watch your intake of alcohol and caffeinated drinks. Increase the moisture in the air by using a cool air humidifier. When using a skin care regiment, keep it simple! Use a gentle cleanser. I personally love Cetaphil, it soothes and cleanses. Then add a Great moisturizer. I prefer using oils, Coconut oil is my favorite. Not only does it add moisture to my skin but it’s also a antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Exfoliant and Mask once to three times a week. This is key. By removing dead skin and adding moisture, this will give you that GLOW back. And add a Retin~A product, its the best wrinkle fighting product.

Our lips dry out ten times faster than the rest of our skin, did you know that? It’s seriously an up hill battle when protecting our lips. Lips are a special type of skin that is thin and delicate… so it does require a little extra TLC. Use a lip balm that is ointment based, this will lock in the moisture and heal the skin. Don’t lick your lips!!! This dries them out more. And avoid lip balms containing camphor, eucalyptus and menthol. One of the biggest tends Im seeing is lips scrubs. They are amazing! Scrub those lips then add your moisture. This will leave your lips looking Luscious.

Winter does not need to bring you down, YOU GOT THIS!

What do I do??? There are so many Cosmetic makeup lines to choose from?

In this multi billion dollar industry of beauty, it’s really hard to know who to trust and what is the best for your hair, skin and nails. I just recently brought on a new makeup line into my salon. Very excited and talking to everyone about it. I found out quickly that most women did not know the dangers of chemicals which are in 70% to 90% of the cosmetics out there.

When I was looking for a cosmetic line, what was important to me was that young and mature women could use it. And that the ingredients had to the most highest in quality!

So what are some things you have to watch for when choosing a cosmetic line?

* PARABENS This is a major chemical to stay away from. It’s super harmful yet it’s in majority of the cosmetic lines sold. Parabens are preservative chemicals that mimic estrogen, so they wreck havoc on your hormones. Their use is linked to breast cancer and skin cancer.

* TRICLOSAN Commonly found in antibacterial soaps, triclosan is an antimicrobial chemical that is also found in some cosmetics. It’s linked to thyroid issues and has contributed to the rise in antibiotics-resistant superbugs.

* PETROLEUM DISTILLATES Found in mascaras, this ingredient is often combined with cancer causing chemicals. They are produced in the same oil refineries as auto fuel and heating oils.

* TALIC Mix with asbestos, a mineral substance linked to cancer is in over 70% of cosmetic lines out there. Talic has been linked to endometrial and ovarian cancers.

It’s important to know what you are using on your hair, skin and nails. Do your research before you purchase and question your professional on what’s being used. Our health is just as important as our beauty.

And “YES” we can have both!

Curl that Hair!

Curling your hair is and has been one of the biggest trends. With so many different varieties to choose from. And it’s so much fun.

BE AWARE!!!!
Holding your iron on your hair for too long at High heat can cause GREAT damage that is sometimes unrepairable! 😳

Yesterday I had a client come in with extremely damaged hair. She is a regular who I’ve been doing a cut and color on. She uses our products line Sachajuan and seemed to do everything right. I was puzzled and said, “We have to figure out what you are doing so we can repair and get your hair back to health”. After sometime of talking we were discussing how she curled her hair. She told me she thought, The Hotter the Better!
OMG!!!!! She was frying her hair!!!

This was very untrue Hotter is not better!!! Please use low to medium heat and only hold for 8 to 10 seconds MAX
